Esalen Massage Introductory Course

Esalen Massage Weekend in Barcelona

The Esalen massage was born in the Esalen Institut, a community born in the sixties, with an undeniable vocation for the development of human potential.

Esalen was also the cradle of several techniques, some psychological, such as Gestalt, others of massage, such as Esalen massage itself, but also of sister techniques, such as Rolfing massage, the trigger points, Deep Tissue, Harmonic Hamacados, and others related to dance, such as the five rhythms or the continium.

All these techniques shared the same essence, the same philosophy and the same way of understanding the human being.

Coming from Gestalt, Esalen massage has an integral and integrative approach, with a series of characteristics that make it a unique massage.

Among the characteristics of Esalen Massage we can highlight:

  • Long movements, which are fluid, integrating and harmonizing movements that envelop the body in a sweet and fluid way.
  • Listening and connection with the body of the person we are working with.
  • This type of work favors the presence of the masseur during the session. Being a completely relaxing massage, it becomes a meditation for the therapists who practice it.
  • The fluidity in its movements favors listening to the body mechanics of the therapist who practices it, which helps to prevent injuries.
  • The fluidity in their movements also favors quality and awareness in our way of touching our client.

Course content

During this 12-hour course we will do a few exercises and activities aimed at increasing our body awareness.

Taking this body awareness work as a base, we will deepen the delicacy and usefulness of long movements.

What is a long movement? What are its uses? What are they useful during massage? How and when are they put into practice? All these questions will be answered if you join us in this workshop.
