International Certification in Esalen Massage
The Esalen International Certification in Massage of 100hs offers a comprehensive training. It is intended for all certified bodyworkers who wish to incorporate this approach.
The Esalen Institute (California, USA) was a pioneer in integrating body, mind and spirit. Your Esalen Massage Certification curriculum builds on this rich history.
This massage is based on “presence”. Its application and use of consciousness utilizes the simple human touch to awaken processes. They are inherent to the healing already existing within every cell of the human body.
One characteristic that naturally arises in Esalen massage sessions is a sense of wholeness, peace and self-healing. All of this is activated through this powerful technique.
International Certification in Esalen Massage
We will start the day with a practice that will lead us to center ourselves to be present and awaken our senses. We will do this through meditation, yoga, and movement practices.
Daily training in the practice of Esalen massage will show you the holistic approach of this technique. From this place you will develop the quality of touch, especially through the “Long Movements”.
These movements are the hallmark of Esalen massage and above all act as integrators that connect the different aspects of this work. All of this is integrated with a very fluid touch. These integrative movements remind the body that it is essentially composed of water and that fluidity is its birthright.
Lectures, demonstrations and daily supervised practice will be an essential part of each training day. Therefore, we will place special emphasis on achieving proper body mechanics.
You will develop your own body awareness through a wide variety of exercises. You will also gain relevant knowledge of anatomy and physiology that will be integrated into the teaching of this art.
You will also learn communication skills to interact with clients in a clear and compassionate manner.
It is a prerequisite for registration to have completed 150 hours of previous training in a body technique. A copy of these qualifications must be attached to the registration form.
The duration of the certification course is 15 days. It will begin on Monday, June 15 and end on Monday, June 29, 2026.
The training will be given in Spanish and English. Translation services will be available.
Obtaining the Esalen Massage Therapist certificate
- To successfully complete the training, each student must document thirty practice massages at their place of origin.
- The Esalen Institute will issue a Certificate in Esalen Massage, 100 hours of training, upon payment of a fee of $150 to the Esalen Institute.
- This is a professional training with limited admission.
The place chosen for the training is the Punta de Couso Center, located on the south coast of Galicia (Cangas del Morrazo, Pontevedra), which offers a spectacular setting with views of the beaches, forests and mountains.

How to get there?
If you are traveling from outside Spain, we advise you to look for flights to Porto International Airport (Portugal).
Both from the city of Porto and from the airport, it is relatively easy to travel to Vigo.
-> From Vigo or from Vigo airport we will arrange cabs to get you easily to Punta de Couso.
Porto and its airport are 170 km from Vigo.
The International Certification in Esalen Massage of 100 hours in Galicia is priced at 2.300€. A discount of 300€ is available for those who register before May 15, 2026.
A deposit of 300 € is required to register for the training. The rest of the amount will be paid in cash on the first day of the training.
Lodging and meals
The price of accommodation and meals will be 1.200€, and will be paid directly at Punta de Couso on the first day of the course.
Cancellation policy:
- Cancellations until April 30: Full refund of deposit. After April 30, no refund of any amount previously paid.
- In case of illness, you must send a report from your doctor and you will be reimbursed, minus your deposit.
Esalen Trainers
Ingrid May
Ingrid May is a German trained physiotherapist, trained as an Esalen massage therapist in 1983 and has been a member of the Esalen Massage team ever since. Since 1989 she has been teaching Esalen massage, first at the Esalen Institute, later worldwide.
She is the founder of the Oasis School of Massage and Healing Arts in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Uniting her knowledge of the body with her love for the spirit and awakened touch has been her passion for 50 years.
Perry Holloman
Perry has lived and taught Esalen® massage at the Esalen Institute in Big Sur, California, since 1979.
He developed the Esalen® Massage Teacher Training Program and has been training teachers worldwide since 2009.
He also created the Deep Bodywork® program at Esalen and teaches professional bodyworkers how to develop advanced bodywork skills.
